Photos of My New York State by Trucker Mike, page 2 Back to Page One to NYC
New York Route 17 zigzags across the entire southern section of the state, from Pennsylvania near Erie to northern New Jersey.  It passes through Jamestown, Elmira and Binghamton and lots of forest and farm land.  It also passes a ski area west of Elmira.  The geology features mainly sedimentary rocks - shales, sandstone and the like - laid down in layers that have been bent, eroded and tilted.

Interstate 81 runs from eastern Tennessee to the Canadian border and I have driven on it all.  The section of I.81 in New York goes through Binghamton, Syracuse and Watertown, skirting the Finger Lakes region and Lake Ontario in the process.  It often sees horrible winter weather.  The northern end of the highway runs into the St. Lawrence River and the Thousand Islands.  A bridge will take you into Canada.

NY Route 37 connects Watertown with Ogdensburg and Massena, NY, along the extreme northwest edge of the state.  I made at least one trip to Rooseveltown, where I picked up a load of cast aluminum from a Reynolds Aluminum plant.  It felt like I was pretty close to the edge of the civilized world.
