It seems as if every community in the country has at least one water tower looming high above the houses and trees of the town. Most of these aerial water tanks were built by or belonged to the town's largest factories. Many of the tanks bear a company name and logo; others advertise the name of the town; some bear a community emblem or motto. I never realized how many shapes and sizes these water towers came in until I started photographing the places I drove through in my 18-wheeler. When I did notice the variety, I made it a point to spot as many different towers as possible. This section is a summary of what I found. If some of the photos lack clarity or are a little crooked, in spite of my editing, keep in mind that the pictures were taken with one hand while I was driving a big truck and was unable to use the view-finder.
